Waste to energy

Once we have extracted as many raw materials as possible from the waste, a residual flow remains that we use to generate energy. We do this in our six incineration lines, four in the Afval Energie Centrale (AEC) and two in the more modern Hoog Rendement Centrale (HRC). With what remains of one tonne of waste, we generate approximately 628 kWh of electricity and 208 kWh of heat. We supply this to the electricity grid and use it to heat approximately 30,000 houses in the North of Amsterdam.
